UNW Eagles Take on the Village
University of Northwestern Men’s Golf Team Trains in Hot Springs Village
Hot Springs Village, Ark. — From March 5 through March 9, 2026, the University of Northwestern (St. Paul, Minnesota) Men’s Golf Team visited Hot Springs Village. Over the course of five days, the student-athletes embraced fluctuating spring weather with determination, taking to the courses whenever conditions allowed to prepare for their upcoming season.
The visit began with a standout moment that set the tone for the week. On the opening day of play at Ponce de Leon Golf Course, one of the Eagles carded an eagle, providing an early highlight and energizing the team. The Eagles went on to log rounds at Ponce de Leon, Isabella, Granada, and Magellan Golf Courses, gaining valuable experience across multiple layouts known for both their challenge and scenic beauty.
The University of Northwestern squad was led by Head Coach Billy Aune and Assistant Coach Gordon Skaar. Senior Jakob Swanson provided veteran leadership for a strong group of underclassmen, including sophomores Noah Frazell, Jackson Courteau, Carson Mersberger, Andrew Carlson, and Trevor Zenk. The team also featured a deep freshman class: Luke Frazell, Carson Besonen, Tanner McNamee, Carson Moscoso, and Noah Carlson.
“On behalf of our program, I just want to say how grateful we are for the opportunities a visit like this provides,” said Head Coach Billy Aune. “We’re thankful for the chance to connect with families and with the incredible golf courses in Hot Springs Village. The golf was a lot of fun, but the people here are even better, and their generosity made this trip truly special.”
Throughout their stay, the Eagles utilized Hot Springs Village’s diverse golf facilities and experienced the community’s welcoming environment. As golf influencers including Good Good Golf and travel planner GOAT Golf Trips recently featured Hot Springs Village in their content, the community continues to strengthen its profile as an appealing training and travel destination for players at every level. The University of Northwestern’s visit further underscores Hot Springs Village’s role as a preferred venue for collegiate teams seeking high-quality practice conditions.
Hot Springs Village extends its appreciation to the University of Northwestern Men’s Golf Team for choosing the Village as their spring training site and congratulates the players and coaches on a productive and memorable week on the fairways. The community looks forward to welcoming the Eagles back in the future.
