HOT SPRINGS, Ark. — Sunshine Therapeutic Riding Center (STRC) will host its 6th Annual Southern Soiree at The Reserve on Thursday, October 1, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., bringing together exceptional cuisine, historic elegance and community support for an evening where horses change lives. 

STRC is an equine-assisted therapy organization serving children and adults through the partnership and therapeutic power of horses. Since beginning services in 2021, STRC has served more than 700 individuals with disabilities, trauma and mental health needs through programs that include hippotherapy, equine-assisted psychotherapy, therapeutic riding and equine-assisted learning. 

This year’s Southern Soiree introduces the Culinary Promenade, inviting guests to stroll throughout the beautiful grounds of The Reserve and experience signature creations from some of the area’s talented culinary artists. Rather than a traditional seated dinner, the promenade is designed to complement the historic setting and allow guests to enjoy the evening at their own pace. 

Participating culinary artists include Chef Ken Bredeson of The Bugler/OAK Room & Bar, Chef Matt Fuller of 501 Prime, Chef Diana Bratton of Taco Mama, Chef Elan Grenman of Best Café, Chef Josh Tiffin of Luna Bella, Chef Sascia Marchesi of J&S Italian Villa, and Chef Nathan McMurry and Sous Chef Davis of The Reserve at Hot Springs.

 As part of the evening, guests will also have the opportunity to tour the historic Main House, where Chef Nathan McMurry will offer an exclusive appetizer created especially for the occasion. 

STRC is especially honored to return to The Reserve at Hot Springs, which has supported the organization since STRC began serving participants in 2021. The beautifully restored W.C. Brown House and its grounds provide a distinctive setting for an event that celebrates both history and the future of the community. 

The Reserve has earned recognition as one of the region’s exceptional destinations, including the Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Award, placing it among the top 10% of hotels worldwide. Its combination of historic character, refined hospitality and culinary excellence makes it a fitting partner for this year’s Southern Soiree. 

Oaklawn Hot Springs returns as the event’s Presenting Sponsor, continuing its longstanding support of STRC since the organization began serving the community in 2021. The partnership represents a meaningful connection between two organizations that understand the unique place horses hold in Hot Springs. 

At Oaklawn, horses are part of a tradition that has connected generations of families and racing fans. At STRC, horses serve a different but equally powerful purpose—connecting therapists and participants, helping children develop new abilities, helping adults regain confidence and movement, and creating opportunities for trust, communication and growth. 

The setting may be different, but the common thread is the horse. Horses connect people. 

The evening will also feature live music by Jerry Lewis, a silent and live auction, and an opportunity for guests to have a formal portrait taken by photographer Jeff Fuller Freeman in front of the Main House. 

The evening will culminate with Fund a Fence, a special paddle-raise initiative supporting a critical safety improvement at STRC. As the organization has grown, its original electric fencing system has become increasingly inadequate for its eight horses. STRC is seeking to raise $15,000 for a permanent, safer paddock fence designed to better protect the horses, staff, volunteers and surrounding community. 

The Southern Soiree is more than a fundraising event. It is an evening to experience the beauty of The Reserve, celebrate the extraordinary people and horses behind STRC, and support the continued growth of equine-assisted services in the Hot Springs community.
