Oaklawn 2024-2025 Racing Season Update
Nodouble Stakes Preview
Defending champion Bohemian Bo is the 5-2 program favorite for the $150,000 Nodouble Breeders’ Stakes Sunday at Oaklawn.
Probable post time for the Nodouble, the seventh of 10 races, is 3:51 p.m. (Central). Racing begins at 12:30 p.m.
Bohemian Bo is trying to join Comedero (2011 and 2012) and Gar Hole (2022 and 2023) as the only two-time winners of the Nodouble, which is for Arkansas-bred 3-year-olds and up, at six furlongs.
Trained by Tommy Vance of Hot Springs, the speedy Bohemian Bo returns to state-bred company for the first time since a front-running 1 ½-length victory in the 2024 Nodouble under Cristian Torres.
“Everything’s good,” said Vance, who trains Bohemian Bo for Texans Michael and Linda Mazoch. “He’s had two nice preps, two nice breezes, even though we went around a frozen track. He’s training well. He’s held his own against open company.”
The Nodouble will be Bohemian Bo’s third start of the meeting. He was a front-running three-quarter length winner of a conditioned allowance Dec. 13 and finished second, beaten four lengths by Chiringo, in another conditioned allowance Jan. 31. Both races were six furlongs. Chiringo, second behind Bohemian Bo in December, returned to finish fourth in the $145,000 Commodore Overnight Stakes Monday at Oaklawn.
Bohemian Bo had three local starts leading up to the 2024 Nodouble. Bohemian Bo wasn’t eligible for the state-bred allowance prep this season (he won it by 4 ¼ lengths in 2024) because of money earned Dec. 13.
“He won the open allowance and hasn’t been able to run against Arky-breds yet,” Vance said. “The only time he’s going to get to run against Arky-breds is (Sunday).”
Bohemian Bo retains Torres, Oaklawn’s two-time reigning riding champion, for the Nodouble. Bohemian Bo drew the rail for the third consecutive race.
“Cristian’s worked him, Cristian loves him,” Vance said.
The seven-horse field includes One Ten Stadium, Willow Creek Road, Navy Seal, Midnight Taxes and Lochmoor, 1-2-3-4-5, respectively, in the Feb. 7 state-bred allowance prep for the Nodouble. One Ten Stadium ran fifth in the 2023 Nodouble. Willow Creek Road, Lochmoor and Navy Seal finished 2-3-4, respectively, in the 2024 Nodouble. Lochmoor and Navy Seal are half-siblings.
A victory by Navy Seal would mark the fourth Oaklawn stakes winner for his dam, Copperelle.
